Leadership for Conservation and Natural Resources
Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District Subdistrict #2
(Wards 2 and 3, west to 49th St and North to Madison County line)
I’ve been very active on board, missing less than a handful of meetings in 8 years. As a lifelong learner, I’ve focused on agricultural and business best management practices by attending conferences, workshops, USDA/NRCS, and UNL Education programs, many at my own expense. I believe in a balanced approach on the budget and priorities, helping to maintain a level local tax request.
I’m an active agriculture producer, a current family farm/ranch manager, former entrepreneur business owner, and a military veteran holding multiple leadership positions. I’ve served on the LENRD board as secretary, chairman, treasurer, executive subcommittee, and district delegate to Nebraska Association Resource Districts, and several adhoc committees.
After moving back to my home town in 2000, I’ve been active in the community serving 20 years in a service club (Norfolk Morning Kiwanis) as president twice, at District, and National levels. For 10 years I was active in coaching youth baseball, local Boy Scouts troop, school's athletic activities, church services volunteer, and current I am a currently serve board on Norfolk Public Library Foundation.
After my Leadership Norfolk or what is called Norfolk 101 class I was a contributor to the Norfolk Riverfront Development Project (2002-2012). I currently serve on the HuskerAg LLC board (Plainview NE ethanol, livestock feed, corn oil production), $250 million annual revenue, employing 40 plus employees.
I promote the 4Rs nutrient management discipline by endorsing cost share for fertigation equipment. I continually emphasis cover crops for soil health and nitrogen capture. I support cost share for reverse osmosis systems for domestic well users with high nitrate levels. I cautiously support increased irrigated acres justified by data, technology and ground water recharge rates thus lower levy rates across district and promoting ag economy. I was strong supporter on the successful application for the excess State's surface water appropriations on the Elkhorn River, thus give LENRD standing in surface water challenges and potentially offsetting ground water use for producers and industrial users.
